Volunteers' Week 2023

1st-7th June

Thursday 1st June 2023 marks the start of Volunteers’ Week 2023!

2023 marks the 39th year of Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June), where Voluntary Action Angus join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations to recognise the contribution volunteers make across the UK.

With this year’s theme of ‘Celebrate and Inspire’ we hope to encourage people to get involved in volunteering in whatever way works for them, we will also be celebrating our volunteers for their generosity and hard work!

We are holding multiple celebration events across Angus for Volunteers’ Week. Whether you are celebrating your own volunteering or want to find out more about how you can get involved in your local community, pop along and chat to one of our Locality Workers!

What's On!

Thursday 1st June: 

  • Picnic Celebration in Carnoustie at Rest Gardens, Carnoustie (In front of Sports Centre) from 10am-3pm – Bring your own picnic, snacks and refreshments will be provided. Celebrate your own volunteering or come along to find out how to get started! Our Locality Worker will be on hand.
  • Volunteer Showcase at The Cross, Forfar from 1pm-3pm- A chance to showcase volunteering over a cuppa and a chat. Anyone interested in volunteering welcome!

Friday 2nd June:

  • “Volunteer Celebration Cuppa” at Montrose Mo-Hub (2nd floor), 98 Murray St, Montrose from 1pm-4pm – A celebration of volunteers over a cuppa, those interested in volunteering welcome! 

Monday 5th June:

  • “Volunteer Celebration Cuppa” at Dalhousie Day Care Centre, 102 High St, Brechin from 11am-1pm – A celebration of volunteers over a cuppa, those interested in volunteering welcome! 

Tuesday 6th June:

  • Celebrate Volunteers’ Week with a Cream Tea in Arbroath at Round O Five O, Abbot Street Lounge, 16 Barbers Croft from 2pm-4.30pm – Celebrate your own volunteering or come along to find out how to get started! Our locality worker will be on hand, along with staff from other organisations. 
  • Picnic Celebration in Monifieth at Sea Front Park, near the playground from 10am-3pm – Bring your own picnic, snacks and refreshments will be provided. Celebrate your own volunteering or come along to find out how to get started! Our Locality Worker will be on hand.

Wednesday 7th June:

  • Volunteer Showcase at Kirriemuir Food Hub, Bank Street, Kirriemuir from 10am-12pm- A chance to showcase volunteering over a cuppa and a chat. Anyone interested in volunteering welcome!

 

Youth Volunteering Pop-Up and Presentation Events

As part of Volunteers’ Week, we held multiple Youth Volunteering Pop-Up and presentation events in partnership with Developing the Young Workforce and SixteenPlus, in secondary schools throughout Angus.

Saltire Awards - Showcasing Local Achievers!

The Saltire Awards are the Scottish Government’s way of celebrating, recognising and rewarding the commitment, contribution and achievements of young volunteers in Scotland, aged between 12 and 25.

Three local volunteers, Christina, Logan and Courtney have all achieved their Summit Award, the highest achievable award while volunteering with Showcase The Street!
