ANGUS THIRD SECTOR EMPLOYABILITY DEVELOPMENT
Empowering People • Strengthening Communities • Creating Opportunities
At Voluntary Action Angus, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential through meaningful work, volunteering, and lifelong learning.
We work in collaboration with the Local Employability Partnership (LEP), and a wide network of third sector organisations to create pathways into employment that are inclusive, person-centred, and community led.
Our Role
VAA represents the Third Sector voice in employability planning and decision-making across Angus. We connect local charities, social enterprises, and community groups with employability initiatives and funding opportunities — ensuring the third sector plays a key role in helping people move closer to and into fair work.
Through this work, we:
- Co-ordinate and champion third sector involvement in employability programmes
- Support organisations to design, fund, and deliver employability-related projects
- Share local intelligence and good practice to influence policy and planning
- Facilitate collaboration across agencies to reduce barriers to employment
Supporting Individuals and Communities
We work closely with partners who help individuals access support that meets their needs and ambitions.
Through our Locality Development Workers, we can connect people to:
- Volunteering opportunities that build confidence, routine, and skills
- Community projects offering training, mentoring, or enterprise experience
- Pathways into work aligned with individual interests and wellbeing
We believe employability begins with community connection — and by working together we can build a fairer, more inclusive Angus for everyone.
Third Sector Impact in Angus
In Scotland, there are over 46,000 third sector organisations, with more than 800 based in Angus — many of which play an essential role in employability.
These organisations build people’s confidence, skills, and social networks — creating the conditions for long-term employment and wellbeing.
As highlighted in our 2025 Annual Report:
- 809 volunteer enquiries were received
- 255 volunteers registered
- 128 adults were matched to volunteering opportunities
- 144 youth enquiries were supported, with 87 progressing to a positive destination
These figures show how volunteering and community engagement act as stepping stones toward employability, inclusion, and purpose.
