Re-engage

Monthly tea parties are back!

Re-engage, formerly called Contact the Elderly, is restarting it’s free monthly tea parties for lonely older people. We have groups in Forfar, Brechin, Montrose, Kirriemuir, Carnoustie/Monifieth and are looking for more volunteers and guests.

Hosts are asked to host a simple afternoon tea once a year and drivers can drive on one Sunday a month or when possible. The teas are held on a Sunday afternoon from 2.00-4.00. There are no caring duties. The number of guests is agreed upon with the host as everyone’s situation is different. Guests have to be able to get in and out of a car and manage a few steps with just a steadying arm.

More information is available on the Re-engage website, and applications are done online, or you can ‘phone me, Jean, on 01356660238 for more information.

Our older people have been finding all the restrictions very hard as many do not have relatives nearby if at all, and are quite desperate to have some social contact. Teas are normally in a host’s home but there is no reason why they cannot be hosted by an organisation, church or business. Our guests are a cheery bunch and love to chat, and everyone meets new people with the possibility of making new friends while drinking tea and eating cake.
