Sustainable Kirriemuir

Community Engagement Officer Vacancy

Location: Homeworking/Sustainable Kirriemuir Community Hub
Hours: 28 hours per week (0.8 FTE)
Duration: 1-year fixed term (with potential extension for a second year)
Salary: £28,560 pro-rata (£22,848)

We have an exciting opportunity to join our small team of staff on a 1-year fixed term contract.

Sustainable Kirriemuir is a community-led organisation. We aim to bring our community together to tackle the global issues of climate change and biodiversity loss at a local level while improving the lives of the people who live here.

We are looking for an experienced Community Engagement Officer to increase participation and volunteering with Sustainable Kirriemuir and other local, like-minded organisations. This role is all about connecting, engaging, and taking action for people and the planet, in Kirriemuir. The successful candidate will be a people person, with excellent listening skills. They will be passionate about the environment and sustainable living.

The Community Engagement Officer will enable and encourage anyone in our community to learn to feel good about themselves; this could be through connecting with others, learning to grow, making, mending stuff, connecting with nature, hopping on a bike or dusting off their old walking shoes, learning to cook or sharing their own skills with others! The successful candidate will be able to bring all kinds of people together, reducing isolation and loneliness and supporting the physical and mental well-being of local people.

This is a new post, funded by the Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund, administered by Voluntary Action Angus on behalf of the Scottish Government. This new fund aims to help tackle the impact of social isolation, loneliness and the mental health inequalities made worse by the pandemic and is part of the wider £120 million Recovery and Renewal Fund announced in February 2021 to ensure delivery of the commitments set out in the Mental Health Transition and Recovery Plan in response to the mental health need arising from the pandemic.
