Menopause Support Group
This new initiative is being carried out by the Patient Advisory Group and is open to patients of the Practice.
There will be speakers each week to help you with any issues relating to menopause that you may be experiencing.
These will include a GP from the practice who will speak about medical assistance available for various symptoms of Menopause.
There will be a life coach speaking about weight loss, improving mental health and wellbeing, improving mobility, and menopause.
There will be a Dru Yoga and Meditation session and the speaker will explain the benefits of Yoga & Exercise: In particular weight-bearing exercise with impact and muscle-strengthening exercise which is important during menopause. (Bring mats).
There will be an Employment law specialist who pointed out that change in the law was long overdue: “At the present, the law doesn’t go far enough to give menopausal women the same stand-alone protective characteristics it does to pregnant women. Women must have confidence that their employers understand what menopause might mean for them and offer every possible support.
A Nutritionist will give a talk on the Eat well Guide and your diet during menopause.
The new Chief Executive of Voluntary Action Angus will speak about (a) the role of Voluntary Action Angus, (b) the new Women’s Centre which is based in Forfar but will be moving as a Road Show to other areas, (c) a Research Project presently being carried out and (d) Information on Endometriosis Support.
She will facilitate a Q&A session, seeking the group’s views on what women in Angus need in relation to menopause support.
She will also give details about the new post of Social Enterprise Officer who will provide entrepreneurial workshops for women in Angus.
An elected member from Angus Council, who was responsible for the introduction of the Council ‘Period and Menopause’ Policy and will speak on various topics relating to meeting the need for a policy and supporting women in the workplace.
All classes will be free at point of delivery and will commence on 23 March 2022 at 5.45pm in the Monifieth Medical Practice, Victoria Street Monifieth DD5 4LX
