Prisoner Voting Consultation

The Scottish Government have launched a consultation on whether to give prisoners the right to vote.  The consultation covers:-

(i)                  The seriousness of the crime;

(ii)                Length of sentence;

(iii)               The possibility that the disenfranchisement could be a particular part of the punishment; and

(iv)              Re-enfranchisement as part of reintegration and rehabilitation with the latter linked on the remaining part of the sentence.

COSLA will develop a united local government response on the consultation for consideration by the COSLA Community Wellbeing Board on 8 March 2019.   Therefore, provide either a draft or finalised responses to COSLA by no later than Thursday 7 February 2019.
