Next Pain Association Scotland Intensive Self-Management Course

The 5 week self management course, delivered by Pain Association Scotland, for people living with chronic pain which we are managing in primary care is due to return to Monifieth in January 2020.

We are seeking your help to promote to suitable patients for the remaining places.

Suitable patients are people over 18 with chronic pain, who are able to participate in groups, and who are motivated to manage their pain better.

I am delighted to get both folks at an early stage of their chronic pain journey as well as folks who may have lived with their pain for many years, but not previously accessed this self management support programme.

Motivation to manage their pain better is probably the most important factor in determining successful engagement in this programme.

Participants are supported to learn techniques to support them to live well with their chronic pain. All patients participating in the programme have a comprehensive assessment pre and post course completion, with statistically significant improvements noted in reduction in anxiety and depression and statistically significant increases in pain self efficacy and mood.

You can email me with patient name, address and phone number if you have discussed participation with them and they definitely wish to participate, or they can be asked to call us on the number below or email at .

They will then be sent a letter from Pain Association Scotland confirming their place, with all the venue/date details and also information about the course.

If you have a patient who would benefit from attendance, and would like to go, but cannot get their by their own means, let me know as we may be able to source NHS volunteer drivers to assist.

Thanks in anticipation for your help. If anyone requires additional information please do not hesitate to shout.
