We are the UK’s largest children’s charity
We change the lives of the children and young people in the UK who most need our help.

We listen to them, whatever is affecting them.

We believe in them – no matter who they are, what they have done or what they have been through.

This belief started with our founder Thomas Barnardo, who stood up for the most vulnerable children in society.

Our vision is his vision – a world where no child is turned away.

Generations Working Together
Long Business Description:

Generations Working Together provides information, delivers support and encourages involvement to benefit all of Scotland’s generations, by working, learning, volunteering and living together.

VISION
That all generations in Scotland will work together to create a better and fairer country for all.
Our equality and cohesion fund project outcomes for July 2016 – June 2017 include:

Organisations, including those working with protected characteristics age, disability & race develop knowledge, understanding and projects that use intergenerational approaches to challenge ageism and discrimination and promote the inclusion of people from diverse backgrounds.
People within protected characteristics groups (age, disability and race) experience a reduction in discrimination, loneliness and isolation and barriers to connecting to other generations. They are more included in their communities and acknowledged for their contributions.
National organisations, local authorities, national public agencies and organisations have an increased awareness, adopt and embed intergenerational approaches to address the challenges of our ageing society and promote positive images of all older and younger people

Organisational outcomes for 2015-2020

Young and older people are more respected and included in their communities and as consequence enjoy enhanced health and wellbeing.
People at local, regional and national levels understand intergenerational approaches and integrate this into practice and policy to create positive change.
GWT is the nationally recognised centre of excellence, supporting the integration of intergenerational work across Scotland.

Home-Start Angus
Address: Home-Start Angus
27 Hamilton Green
Arbroath
DD11 1JG
Long Business Description:

Home-Start Angus offers a unique service to young families.  We offer regular support at home to parents-to-be and to those bringing up pre-school children.  Our organisation recognises that for all of us that are bringing up or have brought up young children it can be hard.  We are never quite prepared for the emotional onslaught of parenting responsibilities and when other factors such as not living near extended family, experiencing poor mental health, relationship difficulties, becoming a lone parent, poor housing or battling to get help for a child that has additional needs, parents can find themselves feeling overwhelmed and guilty that they are not coping.

We recruit, train and support volunteers with parenting experience.  Many of them used Home-Start services themselves when they were bringing up young children and want to give something back.  Our volunteers are sensitively matched with families referred to our organisation and undertake to visit them weekly for a few hours and offer an extra pair of hands, a listening ear or chumming up parents to help them make links with local services outside the home.  The biggest difference they make however is through the relationship of trust they build with parents.

In addition to our home-visiting service, we offer 5 family groups across Angus.
