“Kirrie Connections is a community hub that serves as the base for the Dementia Friendly Kirriemuir Project. The hub is a place where people living with dementia and their carers can get advice, support and form new friendships. We work with a variety of other partners, including Alzheimer Scotland and the Angus Carer’s Centre. The hub is open 5 days a week, Monday to Friday from 9:30am- 4pm, and offers sessions ranging from arts and crafts to sporting memories.
We are currently looking for volunteers to help support our activities, and are also looking for people living with dementia and their carers to be directly involved in telling us what they want from the project.
Our branch is run by volunteers with the aim of giving help, support and friendship to people in the Angus area who have MS. We also offer help and assistance to others affected by MS such as friends, family and carers of people with MS. Help with fund-raising. Help out at social events. Drive community bus. Grants, political lobbying, research.
Offering young people the opportunity of playing pool, darts, table tennis, chill out areas, cafe area, a cafe bar stocked with juice and foodstuffs.
At the Angus Dementia Resource Centre in Arbroath we aim to provide a central hub for information and support for people affected by dementia throughout Angus.
Carer Groups offer mutual support and sharing of information in a confidential setting.
Details of Carers Groups can be obtained by contacting Angus Services direct.
The Service aims to support the families, relatives and friends of people with dementia at any stage of the illness.
Carers support from Alzheimer Scotland is free and offers advice, information and emotional and practical support through:
· Telephone contact
· Home visits
· Carers Groups
· Information leaflets and books
· Education courses and events
· Information about local services and resources Involvement
Carers tell us they experience feelings of isolation; feelings of loss and grief; insufficient support and insufficient information: Alzheimer Scotland understands.
We also run a number of informal Drop-in groups, throughout Angus, for people with dementia, their families and friends.
All our groups are for people who are able to attend on their own safely or who can bring their own support with them.
