“DD8 Music is a charity dedicated to promoting involvement in musical activities to people of all ages in the Kirriemuir area.
We run a recording and rehearsal studio in Kirriemuir. It is a space where people can have the freedom to experiment with music, and be encouraged to develop their talent. The group runs a variety of sessions every week, all of which are free to attend. They also work with other local groups and charities in helping to support their live events.
We named our walking group OOTANABOOT because that is what we do, go out and about, mainly in Angus but occasionally we stray into Aberdeenshire and even Dundee.
OOTANABOOT is the result of an initiative by Angus Council, NHS Tayside and Paths for All who promote health walks, in Arbroath, Carnoustie, Edzell, Forfar, Kirriemuir, Letham and Montrose. Brechin, sadly, had to break away because we were, quite correctly, no longer considered doing health walks, chiefly because we ventured out of Brechin and walked over an hour.
The principles are the same though which is to allow, mainly older folks though we welcome younger ones, to enjoy socialising while exercising, admiring the wonderful scenery in our area. All walks are risk assessed; a four monthly programme is made up with suggestions from those participating so that choice is always there. Cars are available for transport, drivers receiving a thank you penny at the end or a coffee and cake at the many coffee shops we find on our travels!
Why walk, you ask? Well……………………….
It improves mood and may reduce the risk of depression.
Lowers the risk of strokes and can control diabetes
Can also reduce the risk of heart disease by half
You don’t need special equipment
It’s a chance to make new friends, feel good and have fun.
Join us each Wednesday at 1pm (13.00) – we meet and leave from Brechin Library. You will be made to feel very welcome.
We are a charitable organisation run entirely by volunteers, operating throughout Angus producing CDs of local news for blind and partially sighted people. We provide a monthly CD, with the local news for your area, delivered free of charge to your door. We have teams covering the local newspapers in Arbroath, Brechin, Carnoustie/Monifieth, Forfar/ Kirriemuir, and Montrose. We are always looking for volunteers to read extracts from the local newspaper at a recording session held once a month, taking no more than an hour, and volunteers who are proficient with laptop use to help with recordings.
