OOTANABOOT
Locality:
Long Business Description:

We named our walking group OOTANABOOT because that is what we do, go out and about, mainly in Angus but occasionally we stray into Aberdeenshire and even Dundee.

OOTANABOOT is the result of an initiative by Angus Council, NHS Tayside and Paths for All who promote health walks, in Arbroath, Carnoustie, Edzell, Forfar, Kirriemuir, Letham and Montrose. Brechin, sadly, had to break away because we were, quite correctly, no longer considered doing health walks, chiefly because we ventured out of Brechin and walked over an hour.

The principles are the same though which is to allow, mainly older folks though we welcome younger ones, to enjoy socialising while exercising, admiring the wonderful scenery in our area. All walks are risk assessed; a four monthly programme is made up with suggestions from those participating so that choice is always there. Cars are available for transport, drivers receiving a thank you penny at the end or a coffee and cake at the many coffee shops we find on our travels!

Why walk, you ask? Well……………………….

It improves mood and may reduce the risk of depression.

Lowers the risk of strokes and can control diabetes

Can also reduce the risk of heart disease by half

It’s free

You don’t need special equipment

It’s a chance to make new friends, feel good and have fun.

Join us each Wednesday at 1pm (13.00) – we meet and leave from Brechin Library. You will be made to feel very welcome.

Montrose group meet on the last Monday of each month (except December) at the Links Medical Centre, Montrose 2pm-4pm.

Carnoustie group meet on the last Wednesday of each month (except December) in The Parkview Health Centre 2pm-4pm.

The group is a self help support group who have regular monthly meetings with speakers on various subjects, as we feel that good information and communication is important in the self management of our conditions and the more we know what is available to us, the more we are able to cope with everyday life.

During the group sessions we also have relaxation and seated exercise sessions so there’s maybe something you can take and enjoy at your leisure which will help you manage a little better.

Our group is open to all members of the public who suffer from or care for someone with a long term medical condition, not only from the Angus area but also from Dundee. We have a signpost links page on our website and we have a small library of DVDs, CDs and leaflets available to our group members. There is no charge for attending any of our meetings and a list of speakers is on our website at http://www.altcsg.org.uk
