Support Network, Health & Social Care Services

We work with single parents, and other families, across Dundee and can arrange to see you where it suits you best, including your own home. We have community hubs in the St Mary’s, Whitfield and Fintry areas of the city where you can come along, have a cuppa, join in activities or meet with workers. We are open Monday to Friday 9.00am to 4.00pm, but have an answering machine to take your calls out with these times. This means you can leave a message so we can call you back.

The types of support we can offer to parents can be things like helping you with your children’s behaviour, their routines and how to help them grow and develop in the best possible way. We can also give you information about activities you or your children might like and even go along with you at the start. Other things that might be worrying you could be about where you are living, money issues and things affecting you or your children’s health, education and general well being. We can help with these to.

Employability

At the OPFS Dundee Employability Service, we have workers dedicated to helping single parents and single kinship carers on their journey towards a future that could include building your confidence, helping you get some experience, gain some qualifications and get a job.

If you are unsure about going to things on your own for the first time, or about filling in forms, job applications and CV’s, we can help with this. We can go with you at the start, to introduce you to people. We can help with letters and forms. We can make sure you get a benefits check so you know how your money will be affected and we can point you towards other people who can also help you at different stages of your journey.

As well as one-to-one work, we also have some group sessions that might interest you.

If you feel you would like to start planning for your future, we would be very happy to hear from you.

We’re open Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm.

Physical Activity

One of the fastest growing wheelchair sports in the world, wheelchair tennis integrates very easily with the non-disabled game since it can be played on any regular tennis court, with no modifications to rackets or balls. Wheelchair tennis players are allowed two bounces of the ball and therefore can play against other wheelchair tennis players, and alongside or against non-disabled friends and family.

Wheelchair Rugby League is unique in that it offers both disabled and non-disabled players of both sexes the opportunity to compete both with and against each other on a level playing field.

The sport is unique amongst wheelchair sports in that it is not a derivative but rather is faithful to the rules of the game with tries, conversions and all the other familiar aspects of the game which makes it instantly recognisable as the game of Rugby that we all love.
